Arthroscopy

Specialized surgical technique involving the use of a camera inserted into a joint space to allow for better visualization of the anatomy, and aid in achieving the goals of surgery. Best utilized in fairly large joint spaces such as the knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow, or wrist.

Advantages
Advantages include smaller surgical scars (better cosmetic appearance), better visualization of entire joint space, faster rehabilitation from surgery, and less blood loss.

Disadvantages
Disadvantages include more technically demanding procedure, and potentially longer operating time. Arthroscopy may not provide better results than traditional techniques, and is not necessarily the solution for all surgeries.
