Rotator Cuff Arthropathy

Rotator Cuff Arthropathy is an Arthritic condition of the shoulder joint that results because of a large tear of the rotator cuff muscles that provide support and stability to the shoulder joint.

Presenting signs and symptoms include pain, limited shoulder motion and function.

Treatment

Treatment initially is aimed at controlling the pain and can include medications (tylenol, antiinflammatory medicines), injections (steroids), avoiding painful activities, and alternative treatment options (acupuncture, herbal treatments, heat modalities, etc.).

Surgery

Surgery is reserved for patients who have failed conservative treatments and would consist of a total shoulder replacement.

Pain control

Pain control is the main goal of surgery, and function is less reliably improved.
