Labral Tear

Labral Tear – degenerative or traumatic condition involving the cartilage attachment to the socket of the shoulder joint.  Sports injuries, falls, motor vehicle accidents, or sudden force to the shoulder joint can lead to this condition.

Associated conditions include impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tears, or instability of the shoulder joint.   Signs/symptoms include shoulder instability, pain in the front or back of the shoulder, loss of shoulder motion or function, and or weakness.

Treatment

Treatment initially is conservative or nonsurgical to try and control pain with anti-inflammatory medicines, physical therapy, and activity modification.

Surgery

Surgical treatment is reserved for failure of conservative treatment and includes arthroscopic repair of the cartilage attachment to the socket
