Trochanteric bursitis
Trochanteric bursitis – inflammation involving the bursa (“fluid sacâ€) underneath the hip abductor tendon (“brings the leg outwardâ€) on the outside of the hip joint. This condition can occur as an acute injury or more commonly from repetitive overuse. Signs/symptoms include pain over the outside of the hip, weakness with hip abduction, and difficulty walking or running.
Treatment
Treatment is nonsurgical or conservative and includes steroid injections, anti-inflammatory medicines, and physical therapy to increase flexibility of the hip abductor tendon.
