Trigger Finger

Trigger finger: this condition involving swelling of the tendons that flex fingers and thumb. The tendon swells to the point that it has difficulty passing underneath the tissue (tendon sheath) that holds it down to the bone.

 

Ganglion cyst

Ganglion cyst: this condition involves the degeneration or damage of tissue surrounding a joint which leads to joint fluid filling up in the tissue.

   

Dequervain's tenosynovitis

Dequervain's tenosynovitis: this condition involves swelling of the tendons that extend and bring the thumb away from the rest of the fingers (abduction).

   

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis: this condition is a form of inflammatory arthritis that affects the joints in the hands as well as the fingers, but typically does not involve the joints closest to the tips of the fingers.

   

Carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis

Carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis – this condition is a form of osteoarthritis that affects the joint at the base of the thumb. This condition is commonly seen in occupations that involve repetitive gripping, lifting, pushing, or pulling.

   

5th metacarpal neck fracture ("Boxer's Fracture")

5th metacarpal neck fracture ("Boxer's Fracture): this is a very common fracture involving the 5th knuckle of the little finger.  This fracture occurs from punching with the affected hand most commonly.
